Over the holidays, I strolled the Compton Heights neighborhood, located just east of Grand and south of 44. What a beautiful area to drink in some gorgeous St Louis architecture! There are 2 homes now under contract (not featured in photos) with asking prices between $1M and $1.2M.
Laid out in the late 1880s with perhaps the first curved residential streets in the city, with highly recognized names of Hawthorne and Longfellow Blvds, it imposed the first set of residential deed restrictions in MO. Advertised on a hill above the smoke and soot of the city, it attracted wealthy owners looking to spread out a bit, many who were German.
Just another example of what the gilded age of STL produced, and lives on today in fine fashion. We are fortunate that enough residents wish to own and maintain these homes, so they will be "dressed to impress" for years to come.
